If hospitals were factories… there would be hygiene requirements to enter

I visit a lot of workplaces including food facilities, abattoirs, etc.  ALL of them have hygiene requirements on entry.  What happens when you visit a hospital?

And they wonder why infection is out of control.

Comparison of Hygiene Requirements on Entry

 Food factory  Hospital
  1. Remove all jewelry.
  2. Wash and dry hands to elbow.
  3. Cover hair/facial hair.
  4. Cover clothing with a laundered coat.
  5. Put on clean boots.
  6. Wash boots before entry.
 None.  Just go in.

About John Culvenor

Hi, Thank you for taking a look at this blog. I work in engineering, ergonomics, creativity, design, training, etc. Often this is about helping solve legal puzzles through accident analysis. Sometimes it is about thinking up better designs for equipment, workplaces, and systems. This blog is about good design and bad design, accident analysis and how it can be done better, and how we can make a better, safer world by design!
