NBN asbestos known from the start

The ABC news today tried to tell us that asbestos had been “discovered” in the NBN project.  Nonsense.  The asbestos problem was known at the start; not “discovered” this week.  The network has a mountain of asbestos and the government was well aware at the start of the NBN project.  The chart below shows that from 1940’s to 1980’s asbestos pits were installed and from the 1950s to around 1970 asbestos pipes were used.  Why was the government aware?  Answer: because it was the one that bought the asbestos products and put them in the ground.  Perhaps it still has the receipts.

About John Culvenor

Hi, Thank you for taking a look at this blog. I work in engineering, ergonomics, creativity, design, training, etc. Often this is about helping solve legal puzzles through accident analysis. Sometimes it is about thinking up better designs for equipment, workplaces, and systems. This blog is about good design and bad design, accident analysis and how it can be done better, and how we can make a better, safer world by design!
